Preparing for 2015

Why Protest?

About 500 dolphins have been caught since the beginning of the year and driven into the cove of Taiji, including Risso's dolphins, bottlenose dolphins, Striped dolphins and spotted dolphins. About 170 of them have been killed.  Those animals not captured to be used in marine parks, are killed for human consumption.  Source: Atlantic Blue

Why a protest mail campaign?
This simple campaign can have a large impact, with little effort on your part.  We all make choices in our lives.  You can choose not to support those companies which support , or do not express their opposition to, activities not in accordance with world views.  Its not passing judgment.  Its a choice through education.  Change only occur when people's minds are opened.

HERE'S WHAT YOU CAN DO:
  • Consider emailing the letter below to companies of your choice, from the list of major Japanese companies working in the USA (listed below)
  • Follow through buy not purchasing products from these companies!
  • Plan a Head!  Do not put yourself in the situation where you may have to make a last minute purchase from, say, 7-Eleven, because you did not leave your self options.
  • Tell a friend!  Its important that people become educated on the controversy in order to make informed decisions.  Do not judge others for the decisions they make if they have not been educated on the topic.

SAMPLE LETTER:

COMPANY NAME

Subject: Annual Taiji, Japan Dolphin hunt

Dear Board of Directors:

The world is a smaller place today than it was 50 years ago. Markets have been globalized and international news is now local. We are all connected.

Japan's practice of taking (cetaceans (whales and dolphins), in particular the annual dolphin hunt in Taiji, is not acting in accordance with the predominate world view and must be stopped. As a citizen of a country other than Japan, I have little right to dictate my wishes upon your country. However, as a citizen of the world I have every right to voice my opinion and make a choice on which global companies I choose to purchase goods and services.

As a leading global company based in Japan, you have the ability to place pressure on your government to stop the Taiji dolphin hunt. If your company has not voiced its opposition to the Taiji hunt, then you are in support of it and, therefore, working against world opinion. For this reason, I choose not to do business with your company, support or purchase any goods that you may manufacture. In essence, I am advocating a boycott of your company until the large scale taking of dolphins and other marine mammals by Japan ends.

I have made my choice, now it is time for you to make yours.

Best Regards,
